Metal or traditional braces are more effective at treating extreme cases than other options like clear braces or Invisalign aligners and are less expensive. The major disadvantage of traditional braces is their train track braces appearance, however, today's braces are more visually appealing than in the past, with a range of colour options for both the brackets and the elastics.

Traditional braces comprise standard metal brackets that are placed on your teeth with an adhesive and connected by wire. They require periodic tightening every 4-6 weeks so steady pressure can gradually straighten your teeth and align your jaw.

Who are metal braces for?

Traditional braces are effective in all scenarios, from mild to severe and can treat issues such as overbites, underbites, and crossbites, teeth with gaps, overcrowded teeth, crooked teeth and TMJ disorders and sleep apnea. They give us the control we need to move the teeth in small increments at a time.

Traditional braces also mean that you don’t have to worry about losing or misplacing your aligners. Once fixed, they are always on and working to straighten your teeth. They are an excellent choice for children needing kids braces or teen braces.

For adult orthodontics, the length of treatment time is important. Traditional metal braces are more appropriate in most cases and produce results quicker because of the increased control we have over tooth movement. Wearing traditional braces also means that you don't have to worry about ever losing your aligners.
